Aston Martin's One-77 supercar has already stunned with its looks, its price and its ambition. And now with its speed, having blitzed the 200mph benchmark and recorded 220mph in testing.
This stunning achievement shows impressive early pace for the all-new Aston Martin supercar and apparently already exceeds the expectations of the development team. Further dynamic testing will now follow.
Aston is pitching the One-77 into the same arena as ultra-exclusive, ultra high performance mega cars like the Bugatti Veyron and some of the more limited edition Pagani Zonda variants, such as the million-pound Cinque revealed earlier this year.
And though the Veyron is unlikely to see its 253mph top speed bragging rights challenged by the One-77 in many other respects the Aston is more than a match for the mighty Bugatti - not least in its rarity with just 77 examples expected to be built.
In comparison production of over 200 coupes and a scheduled 150 Grand Sport cabrios makes the Veyron, relatively speaking, as common as muck. And as the name suggests, each One-77 will be uniquely tailored to its buyer.
Powered by a 7.3-litre evolution of the 6.0-litre V12 seen in the DB9, DBS and V12 Vantage, the One-77's engine has undergone some serious re-engineering in order to meet the targeted power output of at least 700hp.
A racecar-style dry sump lubrication system means it can be mounted 100mm lower than the standard engine and it sits a whole 257mm behind the front axle for perfect weight distribution, while maintaining the classic front-engined lines.
Built around a carbon-fibre tub, every single component of the One-77 has been exquisitely designed to be both functionally perfect and aesthetically beautiful, whether you'll be able to see it on the final car or not.
